Native to Bolivia, the upper Paraguay basin, and the upper Madeira basin in Brazil, the Black Phantom works well as a beginner fish and schooling fish due to their peaceful nature.
Unlike other Tetras that prefer to live in large shoals, the Black Phantom can adapt to smaller groups of four to five individuals – making them suitable for a smaller aquarium. However, males are territorial and there should be enough space for them to stake their territories.
